A football player has filed a complaint against actor Suriya at Shastri Nagar police station in Chennai, alleging that the latter slapped him in full public view at Adyar on Monday evening.

In his complaint, 20-year-old U Premkumar, who is said to be a first division football player, said that when he and his friend were going on a two-wheeler, they hit a car going in front of them when it stopped suddenly.

Following this, a woman came out from the car and was involved in an argument with them. At that time, Suriya, who was passing by, stopped his car, stepped out of it, and started scolding them, he said, adding that he also slapped him for ‘fighting with a woman’.

Meanwhile, Suriya’s manager has issued a clarification, in which he said the two youngsters in a bike had hit an old lady near Adyar.

“Those two youth had been harassing that old lady. Suriya who had been passing by that way had stopped his car and had intervened and had questioned those youngsters on harassimg the old lady. Suriya had immediately informed the police about this incident and had left his assistant at the incident spot and left away. Taking Suriya’s absence as an advantage these two youths had filed a police complaint against Suriya,” he added.

Mysskin picks a new heroine

A fresher will be seen playing the lead role in an upcoming film of Mysskin, which he will direct after completing Vishal-starrer ‘Thupparivalan’. Her name is Tanya.

Though she is new to the industry, her family is familiar in these parts, as she is the granddaughter of yesteryear top actor Ravichandran.

Happy about bagging the offer, Tanya says, “Mysskin sir, after coming to know about me from a model coordinator, asked me appear for screen test. After I cleared it, he told me I will be the female lead of the movie. I am excited.”

A post graduate at Madras School of Social Work, Tanya says her film with Mysskin will hit the floors after he is done with ‘Thupparivalan’. Ask her more about the film and her role in it, she says, “as of now, I don’t know anything.”

She adds: “But I am sure Mysskin sir would offer me the right launch pad. I am eagerly waiting to shoot for the movie.”

Vikram’s fight inside flight

Vikram-starrer ‘Irumugan’, helmed by Anand Shankar of ‘Arimanambi’ fame, is being loaded with some adrenaline-pumping stunt scenes and one of them will have the ‘Chiyaan’ fighting inside a moving helicopter.

“The scene will be shot in Bangkok with the help of international stunt masters. It will be on par with Hollywood movies,” sources said, adding that the team will leave for Bangkok soon.

Before that, the cast and crew of ‘Iru Mugan’ will can some important sequences at a grand set erected at Old Mahabalipuram Road on the outskirts of Chennai. “Playground of a college is being used for the purpose,” sources added.

Produced by Shibu Thameens of ‘Puli’ fame, the film has Nayanthara and Nithya Menen as heroines. Music is being composed by Harris Jayaraj. Recently, a song and few scenes were shot in Kashmir, it may be recalled.

Japan honour for A R Rahman

Oscar-Grammy winner A R Rahman has brought another laurel to the country. He has been selected for the prestigious Fukuoka Prize of Japan.

Established by Fukuoka City, Japan, in 1990, it as an award presented annually to honour the outstanding work of individuals, groups and organisations to preserve and promote the unique and diverse cultures of Asia.

The prize aims to foster and increase awareness of the value of Asian cultures, and to institute a broad framework for exchange and mutual learning among the people of Asia.

This year marks the 27th anniversary of the inception of the Fukuoka Prize. “Over the last 26 years, we have had the privilege of presenting the Prize to 102 leading figures in their respective fields,” office-bearers of the committee said.

The prize will be given to Rahman at a grand function on September 16, 2016 at Fukuoka Symphony Hall, ACROS Fukuoka 1F. Besides receiving the prize, the ‘Mozart of Madras’ will also deliver a lecture.
