The legendary K Balachander, who is no more, wanted to direct a film centred on children. He had even penned the script, finalised the actors and asked his ‘student’ Samuthirakani to assist him in the project.
But before things could materialise, fate overtook the ‘Iyakkunar Sigaram’. And now, Samuthirakani, despite his busy schedule as actor and director, has vowed to make his mentor’s dream a reality.
The ‘Nadodigal’ and ‘Nimirndhu Nil’ maker, who is busy wielding the megaphone for a film titled ‘Appa’, will start working on Balachander’s project soon. Besides directing, he is also planning to produce the film and play a key role in it.
“I don’t want to request anyone to bankroll the film. Hence, I myself will be doing it. It will be my tribute to KB sir. But everything depends on the box-office response to be generated by ‘Appa’,” he adds.
