Cinecoffee.com brings you an exclusive look on five projects of these super league actors like Rajnikanth, Kamal Haasan, Vijay, Vikram and Ajith Kumar that didn’t happen for some reasons or were replaced by other actors.

1.  Superstar Rajnikanth (Chandramukhi-2)

Soon after the grand success of ‘Chandramukhi’, director P. Vasu made a sequel to Kannada version titled as ‘Aaptha Rakshaka’ that marked the last film of Vishnuvardhan. The film again was a tremendous hit and later turned to be more successful in Telugu version titled ‘Nagavalli’ as well. In fact, the film had few montages of Jyotika and Rajnikanth from original Chandramukhi. When Rajnikanth was invited for the special screening of Aaptha Rakshaka, he gave a standing ovation during the film’s climax that was punched with heavy emotions and thrills, but apparently convinced P. Vasu that Ajith Kumar would be the best option for this role.

2. Kamal Haasan (Robot)

Soon after the grand success of ‘Indian’, Shankar had conceptualised the magnum opus script ‘Robot’ that was to star Kamal Haasan and eventually mark the debut of Preity Zinta before Manirathnam’s ‘Dil Se’. The photo shoot had indeed raised everyone’s expectations, but somewhere it got dropped after decades, it was made as ‘Enthiran’ with Rajnikanth. Erstwhile, Shahrukh Khan was supposed to make ‘Robot’ with Shahrukh Khan in lead role, which was dropped.

Although the first and last 20 minutes of this film was dedicated to the modern day Rajnikanth along with his bunch of young actresses and comedians, a major portion of this film, nearly 2hrs was the narrative flashback of Raja Lingeshwaran, who builds a dam. The complete story is narrated by director K Vishwanath, who happened to a small boy witnessing the history.

A remake of Malayalam blockbuster movie Drishyam, the film yet to release will actually open with Kamal Haasan looking back into his life, which reveals the hidden identity of this small town middle class man, father of two daughters. Although, many changes have been made to this film, the narrative pattern of major sequences will remain the same.

The story opens with Sathya Dev (Ajith Kumar) meeting Then Mozhi (Anushka Shetty) on a flight journey and the plot can be narrated in few lines. But the actual narration on screens gets into flashback mode as the protagonist revisits his life from childhood of 13 years of age to 40 years.

The introduction sequence of Vijay’s another role Jeevanandham looks too normal, but AR Murugadoss uses the flashback mode to throw more lights on the sacrificing nature of Jeeva and his village problems with it. Although the flashback sequences didn’t run for more than 30 minutes, it is considered to be one of the major highlights of this film.

When everyone expected something different to start off with, director Shankar offered an unexpected or unimaginable punch with the disfigured Lingesan (Vikram) kidnapping his ladylove (Amy Jackson) on the day of her marriage. Although, everything seems like Vikram is a baddie and has some evil intentions, it is cleared by the second hour, where Vikram actually narrates the hidden truth that Amy Jackson doesn’t know.

The complete first half of this film sheds lights on Krishna, the so-called brother of Raju Bhai (both the roles played by Suriya) getting to know about his sibling and the death of his close friend. By the time of intermission, it is revealed that Krishna and Raju Bhai are the same person and he is here to settle the scores with the baddies who had killed his close friend (Vidyut Jamwal).
