Kollywood greets JayalalithaaEven as the All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam was heading towards victory in the Tamil Nadu Assembly elections, various associations of Tamil film industry congratulated chief minister and AIADMK general secretary J Jayalalithaa.

A statement by Tamil Film Producers Council expressed happiness over her party’s win in the polls and covneyed its heartfelt wishes to her. Similar statements have been issued by Film Employees Federation of South India (FEFSI) and South Indian Artistes Association (Nadigar Sangam).

Various popular personalities of the industry too have greeted Jayalalithaa and wished her. The list includes Sivakumar, Karthi, Prabhu, Ramarajan, Vindhya, Senthil etc. According to Vindhya, “Amma’s victory has proved that people have immense confidence on her.”

It is to be noted that Jayalalithaa was once a top heroine of Kollywood. She was groomed in politics by her mentor and former chief minister M G Ramachandran, who was a matinee idol of Tamil cinema. Interestingly, Tamil Nadu is being ruled by film personalities for the past four decades and more.

actor vishalKnown for his fight against piracy, Vishal took it to the next level on Wednesday evening, as he convened an ‘urgent press meet’ in Chennai and blamed Tamil Film Producers Council for the fiasco.

Accompanied by producers K E Gnanavelraja, Elred Kumar and others, Vishal, the general secretary of South India Artistes Association, said, “We have continuously brought this issue up with the Tamil Film Producers’ Council, but there has been no response.”

He added: “Though it has been confirmed that pirated copies of around seven movies, including ‘Theri’, ’24’, ‘VSOP’ and ‘Inji Idupazhagi’, have been made from PVR cinemas in Orion Mall, Bengaluru, the Producers Council has not taken any steps to address the issue.”

A few hours before that, he tweeted: “Baffled n puzzled y #dhanu sir pres of prod council doesn’t wanna take action on concernd theatres caught regd piracy.but Wil nt stop dis fite against piracy. Wil continue til v get justice.hope the prod council comes wit an explanation regd this.pathetic state.”

With his ‘Marudhu’ getting ready to hit the screens on Friday, Vishal has issued a strict warning against those involved in piracy.

rekka photosIt seems there are some similarities between the story of ‘Rekka‘, Vijay Sethupathi‘s upcoming film, and that of Vijay’s blockbuster ‘Ghillie.’

According to sources, the storyline of ‘Rekka’ revolves around a happy-go-lucky young man, who helps a young woman in trouble. “Like ‘Ghillie’, the story of ‘Rekka’ too is set in the backdrop of two different towns,” they added.

Kabir Duhan Singh, who crossed swords with Ajith in ‘Vedalam’, is the villain in ‘Rekka’, Touted to be an action entertainer with ample doses of romance, the film directed by Rathnasiva is produced by B Ganesh of ‘Orange Mittai’ fame. Music is by D Imman and cinematography by Dinesh Krishnan.

Talking about Vijay Sethupathi recently, Kabir said, ‘I came to know many positive things about Vijay Sethupathi. I heard that he is a great person to work with and he is a honest and humble human being. He is brilliant workwise too.”.

yuvan shankar rajaA peppy number from Atharvaa-starrer ‘Sema Botha Aagatha’, composed by Yuvan Shanka Raja, will be released soon. The song was shot recently in Baba Budangiri hills in Karnataka.

According to the film’s director Badri Venkatesh, “it is an energetic number and it has a fight sequence too. It was choreographed by Dilip Subbarayan. Atharvaa will be seen doing some risky stunts.”

The movie has two heroines- Anaika Soti, who was last seen in ‘Kaaviya Thalaivan’ and Mishti Chakraborty, who acted in Subhash Ghai’s ‘Kaanchi’.

Talking about the flick, Badri says, “Anaika is doing a very bold role and I am happy that she readily came forward to take up the character without any apprehension. Mishti too will be seen in an important role.”

On the film, he says it will be as quirky and interesting as the title. The film is produced by Atharvaa’s newly floated Kickass Entertainment.

suriya imagesSuriya‘s latest release ’24’ has become a member of the coveted ‘100 crore club’, as the movie has reportedly managed to collect Rs 10 million in the box-office.

“The news has made Suriya, director Vikram Kumar and producer Gnanavelraja very happy. They are proud that the achievement has been made despite pirated versions of the film hitting the black market immediately after its release,” sources said.

Suriya is presently holidaying in the United States with his family and he is expected to return to India soon. On his return, he will complete ‘S3’ directed by Hari before venturing to new projects.

A few days ago, he issued an apology statement for not being able to cast his vote in the Tamil Nadu Assembly elections. He said that he made his best efforts to reach Chennai before the polls, but was unable to do it.

Taapsee Pannu photosWhen Hyderabad boxer Likhitha Battini was looking for financial assistance to get training to qualify for Olympics, Taapsee Pannu rushed to her help and raised funds.

According to sources, the ‘Aadukalam’ and ‘Vandhaan Vendraan’ actress joined hands with an NGO and ensured that the required funds reached the boxer. Battini is said to have touched and moved by the gesture.

Meanwhile, Taapsee realised her dream last month by buying a house in Mumbai, it is to be recalled. “I always thought I will buy a house in Mumbai only if I receive good response in Hindi film industry. It’s a huge investment so I didn’t want to take a risk if things don’t turn out good for me here,” she said.

“Fortunately, everything turned out to be better than what you expected, and I am really happy with the response and specially with the kind of films I am getting here. That’s the space I always wanted to be in. So, this calls for having my own space in this expensive city. Hope my new residence turns out to be lucky for me,” she added.
